Construction debris / Central Florida

Construction debris,
sized by weight.

Drywall, tile, shingles, cabinets, concrete. The debris no city truck will take, in a can sized for what it weighs, or loaded and hauled straight off the pile.

01The short answer

For a remodel, a tear-out or a build, Precision Junk Removal drops a 10, 15, 17 or 20 yard roll-off from $425, with delivery, pickup, disposal and a weight allowance included, anywhere within 50 miles of Lakeland. If the debris is already in a pile, we load and haul it instead. Construction debris is the one thing almost no city or county curbside service will take, so it is most of what contractors call us for.

The thing that decides the price on construction debris is weight, not volume. Pick the can for the weight and the bill is the quote.

02Sizes and weight allowances

SizePriceWeight includedTypical job
10 yard$425½ tonOne bathroom, a single garage bay
15 yard$4651 tonA whole room stripped out
17 yard$4951 tonFlooring across a house, a multi-room tear-out
20 yard$5502 tonsA roof tear-off, a full gut
Precision's live rate card. Over the included weight is $95 per ton, billed off the certified landfill scale ticket, and you get a copy of the ticket.

Drywall runs 500 to 750 lb a cubic yard. Shingles run 2,400 to 2,600 lb. Concrete and brick run 3,500 to 4,200 lb, so one cubic yard of broken slab can use a 20-yard can's whole allowance. The weight guide works through real jobs, and the roofing page sizes a tear-off by squares.

03Why the city truck won't take it

  • Polk County curbside service refuses construction debris outright.
  • Lakeland takes small amounts from a homeowner's own upkeep, not large amounts and not contractor waste.
  • Tampa excludes building materials by name: tile, plywood, brick, block, doors, windows, roofing and drywall.
  • Plant City refuses shingles, concrete, pavers and masonry, and never collects business waste for free.
  • Hillsborough County's Southeast landfill refuses construction and demolition debris, concrete and asphalt included.

Three cities run construction roll-offs themselves. Bartow requires a city roll-off for construction and demolition debris, Haines City ties every construction, demolition or remodeling permit to a roll-off or special pickup from the city or its contractor, and Winter Haven leases its own roll-offs. Inside those three cities, call the city.

04What it costs at the gate

If you haul your own debris, here is what the public sites charge since 1 October 2026:

SiteConstruction debris
Polk County North Central Transfer Station$48.30 a ton, $10 minimum
Polk County Northeast center, Haines CityResidential construction debris, flat $10 to $27 by vehicle. No commercial use
City of Tampa, McKay Bay$130 a ton, card only
Hillsborough County Southeast landfillNot accepted

A can with the tonnage already in the price takes the scale line, the trailer and the trips out of your day.

05Loading it right

  • Heavy and flat goes in first, spread across the floor of the can, not piled at one end.
  • Keep it level with the top rail. Material piled above it has to come off before the can leaves.
  • Keep it dry where you can. Wet drywall and soaked carpet weigh more on the scale.
  • Tell us about concrete, dirt or shingles before the drop, so the size is picked for the weight.
  • Leave out paint, solvents, asbestos, tires and anything hazardous. The full list.

06For contractors

  • 9 AM to 6 PM, seven days, Sundays at the same price. A delivery outside 9–6 adds $275, and after midnight adds $399.
  • A 50% deposit books the drop. Pay by Zelle, Venmo, cash, or card through a Jobber link.
  • The first 50 miles from Lakeland are included. 50 to 85 miles adds $185, which covers Bradenton.

Check the town's rules on cans in the street before the drop: the permit guide has Tampa, Lakeland and Polk.

07Questions people ask

What size dumpster for a bathroom remodel?

Usually the 10 yard, $425 with half a ton included. If the tub, tile and a mortar bed are coming out, ask about weight before you book.

Can I put concrete in the dumpster?

Yes, if we know first. Concrete runs about two tons a cubic yard, so a small amount uses a whole allowance. Tell us how much and we size the can for it.

Will the city pick up my remodel debris?

Almost never. Polk County, Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace all refuse construction debris at the curb, and Lakeland takes only small amounts from a homeowner's own upkeep.

What does a construction dumpster cost?

From $425 for a 10 yard with half a ton included, up to $550 for a 20 yard with two tons. Over that is $95 per ton off the scale ticket.

Do you haul debris that's already in a pile?

Yes. Send a photo of the pile and we price loading and hauling it.
