01The short answer
A 10 to 20 yard roll-off, delivered anywhere in Plant City from $425 with no distance charge, seven days a week between 9 AM and 6 PM. The can goes on your driveway or your own lot, not the street, and a driveway drop needs nothing from the city.
The rest of this page is what is particular to Plant City: why the street is off the table, what the city pickup will not take, the historic districts, festival season, and where the load goes.
02Your property, not the street
Plant City's code makes it an offence to obstruct any public street, alley or sidewalk, and anything that does has to be removed. Lakeland and Tampa both have a permit for putting a dumpster on the street. We could not find one in Plant City. So here the answer is simple: the driveway, a side yard or your own lot.
If the driveway is short, narrow or shared, send a photo of it taken from the road and we will work out where the can fits before you book.
03City or county, and what the pickup refuses
Inside city limits, trash and yard waste are the city's job. Outside them it is Hillsborough County's, and plenty of Plant City mailing addresses are outside them. The two work differently.
Inside city limits
Yard waste goes out on Wednesdays, in bags or bundles up to 40 pounds, with limbs no thicker than 5 inches and no longer than 5 feet. Anything bigger is yours to get rid of, and leaving it out can cost you the disposal plus a $100 fine.
Each single-family account gets one free special pickup every 12 months for bulky items or a big pile of yard waste. After that the code sets $226.06 a load, or $113.04 for a half load, with a 3% rise every October since 2023, so expect it to be higher now. Solid Waste is on 813.757.9208.
The city will not take mirrors, sheets of glass, HVAC ductwork, solar panels, roofing shingles, concrete, pavers, rocks or bricks. Its household trash leaves out anything that came from a renovation or a construction project, and business waste is out too, including construction, lawn and tree companies.
The old furniture fits the free pickup. The roof, the bathroom, the pavers and the concrete do not, and that is most of what a roll-off is for.
Outside city limits
County addresses get yard waste collected weekly, up to 2 cubic yards (3 from February to April), with limbs under 4 feet long and 6 inches across and no painted or treated wood. Bulky items are a paid special pickup at $30 to $50 an item, booked on 813.272.5680.
The county's Alderman's Ford collection center, 9402 County Road 39, takes bulky items, appliances, tires, scrap metal, electronics, paint and batteries from county customers, Monday to Saturday 7:30 AM to 5 PM. Bring photo ID and your tax bill, and be ready to unload by hand. It does not take yard waste or household hazardous waste.
04Historic districts and trees
Plant City has three local historic districts: Downtown Commercial, Downtown Residential and Northeast Residential. Three areas are also on the National Register, the downtown commercial district and the downtown and north residential districts, with close to 300 buildings between them.
In the local districts, demolition and exterior changes need a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Resources Board. We read what the review covers and found nothing about a temporary container on a driveway. If your job includes demolition or new exterior work in one of those districts, that part may need the board before you start, and it is worth a call to the city first.
Trees
Clearing land in Plant City needs a permit. Grand trees stay protected even when their species otherwise would not be, and preserved trees need barricades round them while work is going on. If you are clearing a lot, have the permit sorted before the can arrives, and tell us which trees are staying so the truck keeps well clear of them.
05A growing town, and festival season
Plant City has grown from 39,764 people at the 2020 Census to an estimated 44,118 by July 2025, and about two thirds of homes are owner-occupied.
The Florida Strawberry Festival runs from 4 to 14 March 2027 at the fairgrounds on BerryFest Place, and the Grand Parade closes downtown roads in stages along its route, usually on a Monday afternoon. Expect heavy traffic near the fairgrounds and downtown while it is on.
If your job is near downtown or the fairgrounds in early March, book the delivery and the pickup early, and tell us if your street is on the parade route.
06Where your load actually goes
Household garbage in Hillsborough goes to the county's Southeast County Landfill, 15960 County Road 672 in Lithia. It does not take construction and demolition debris, concrete, asphalt, or yard and wood waste, so remodel and roofing loads go to private processors instead. There is also a transfer station on North Frontage Road in Plant City, now part of GFL Environmental.

Keep yard waste and building debris apart. Mixed loads are charged at double, and clean yard waste is the cheapest thing on the list. On a job that is both, ask us whether two smaller cans come out cheaper than one big one.
07What cannot go in the can
Hillsborough's landfill refuses liquid waste, hazardous materials, biohazardous waste, PCBs and radioactive material, and asbestos needs approval before it arrives.
The nearest household hazardous waste drop-off is the county's Saturday event at Hillsborough Heights, 6209 County Road 579, Seffner, on the third Saturday of the month from 8 AM to 2 PM. If you are inside city limits, check with the city's Solid Waste office on 813.757.9208 first.
Tires, paint, batteries and electronics are worth a mention when you book. They are cheap to deal with separately and expensive to find at the bottom of a load. The full list is on what can’t go in the can.
